The Escalante River is generally considered to be the last major river to be "discovered" in the contiguous United States.

Social Hall Heritage Museum

Info

Discover an archeological dig in downtown Salt Lake City! Visit the Social Hall Heritage Museum to find out what the early settlers of Salt Lake did for a good time. Salt Lake City's Social Hall was just that, a building dedicated to social gatherings. There settlers shook off the hardships of frontier life and enjoyed music, dancing, lectures, and the company of good friends. The remains of the Social Hall were uncovered in 1991 and a museum was erected to preserve them. The museum can be entered through a walkway just east of the ZCMI Center Mall or inside the ZCMI Center Mall at the east escalators.
