Escalante Petrified Forest State Park

Info

Wide Hollow Reservoir has been completely drained for reconstruction of the dam. The project began in March 2010. The reservoir will have no water throughout 2010. Recreational use of the reservoir for fishing, swimming and boating will not be available until Spring 2011. The campground and hiking trails will remain open. A few campsites will be impacted by the construction. For more information, please check our "Current Conditions" link (see below) or call the park at 435-826-4466. Please use caution in and around the park as there will be large construction vehicles using the entrance road. Escalante Petrified Forest State Park is located in beautiful southern Utah, just 44 miles east of Bryce Canyon National Park. Hike along park nature trails through a petrified forest, camp along the shores of Wide Hollow Reservoir, or rent a canoe and paddle on its clear waters. At the Visitor Center, view displays of plant and marine fossils, petrified wood and fossilized dinosaur bones over 100 million years old.
